Draft2Digital

Draft2Digital, is a great and simple service for self-publishers. You won’t have to worry about formatting your book because they will do that for you. Your book can be distributed to a wide variety of book stores including Amazon and Barnes & Noble, you just pick which ones you want to submit to. Writers who publish with Draft2Digital will keep ownership of their book. They will publish both eBooks and printed books free of charge. Draft2Digital charges no fees, they will take 10 percent of retail price of your book when it sells. They only make money when you make money. At the time of this writing, I do not think that they offer hardback books.

    Book Sizes

When creating your paperback book, Draft2Digital only allows certain book sizes that they will print.

    • 5″ x 8″
    • 5.25″ x 8.5″
    • 5.5″ x 8.5″
    • 6″ x 9″
    • 7.5″ x 9.25″
    • 8.5″ x 11″

If you are having a hard time deciding on what size you should use, I can tell you that the most common size for a novel is the 6×9 inch. The best size for children’s books is the large 8.5×11.

    ISBN

When publishing your book Draft2Digital will provide you with an ISBN (International Standard Book Number. The numbers have 5 parts. The first three 978 or 979 show it is a book. Next is 1 number that indicates the language of the book, which if English it is a 0 or 1. After that comes a 3-digit number that identifies your publisher, then comes a 5-digit number that identifies the title, edition and the format of your book. Lastly is the check digit to indicate the ISBN is verified. If you have your own number, they say you can use it.

I think they are a great service to use and it sounds like they are easier to use than even Amazon since they will format your book for you. They do just about everything for you, all you have to do is submit your manuscript. However, you will need to provide them with your cover image because they do not have that service.
