So you have your book ready for publishing and you need a cover. Your page count is important when self publishing books for print. Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) has a template generator that comes in very handy! I use it all the time. It will give you a drop down menu of choices on the size you want your book to be, which is the “Trim Size”. After you select your trim size you need to enter your page count. Page count is not the same thing as the number of sheets of paper that are in your book. Page count include both sides of each sheet of paper inside your book. So 1 sheet of paper equals 2 pages. In the screenshot below, you will see that Amazon requires you to have at least 24 pages for your book.
If your story is very short, you may struggle with reaching 24 pages. There are ways around this. For example, you can place your text on one page and then have an illustration on the adjacent page. Also, think about adding pages such as a title page, Acknowledgement page, About the author page, copyright page and you may even insert a blank page. This will allow you to reach your 24 page goal!
I hope this article has helped you to understand what is needed when you get ready to upload your print book for publishing!
